As you published your question in Spiceworks General Support forum, I did not get to which version and edition of Spiceworks you refer nor to which of its integrations. Please clarify.

• Which integration of Spiceworks did you try to install for which undisclosed edition of Spiceworks?
• Which component of your Gigabyte device did you try flashing with which image for that purpose?
• What’s the relation to which edition and which version of EFI and of QFlash?
• Why did you not try the installer of your undisclosed software?

I have to assume that you are referring to flashing the BIOS since you don’t specify.

If that is the case, I have to also assume you are attempting to use a flash drive with the BIOS file on the root of the flash drive.

If this is the case, make sure your flash drive is formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS.

Also try different USB ports that are directly on the motherboard, sometimes front panel USB ports won’t work for BIOS flash.

Also try to use a USB 2.0 port if available on that board, some older boards won’t let you flash the BIOS through USB 3.0 or higher.

If all else fails, use a different flash drive.

Сегодня попалась интересная материнская плата Gigabyte Z590 Gaming X с проблемой обновления BIOS. Но основная жалоба на пациента была следующей — высокие обороты кулера при минимальных нагрузках на процессор (к слову там установлен Intel Core i7-11700), например при просмотре ютуба или его превьюшек + троттлинг + глюки в играх.

Из основных предположений о возникновении проблем выше, с довольно свежим и неплохим по производительности процессором, сразу же стала прошивка BIOS. И этот BIOS не захотел обновляться…

Особенностью данной материнки было то, что штатной утилитой прошивки BIOS через Windows выходила ошибка о несовместимости версий BIOS, а при попытке обновиться из BIOS через Q-flash после проверки — появлялась ошибка: «Oemid Mismatch«.

Текущая версия прошивки BIOS была F4d RB (05/20/2021). На официальном сайте по состоянию на 17.09.2022 актуальная версия прошивки F7c от 24/01/2022.

Немного поискав решение текущей проблемы в интернете, нашел вариант перепрошивки BIOS через Q-flash plus. Но подробного описания именно для этой материнки на глаза не попалось, поэтому инфу пришлось собирать клочками и выложить для вас здесь.

GIGABYTE Q-Flash Plus — фирменная функция, которая предусматривает возможность обновления микрокода BIOS с помощью типового USB флэш-накопителя без необходимости установки в систему ЦП и модулей ОЗУ.

Собственно теперь о подготовке материнки и USB-флешки для проведения прошивки фирменной функцией Q-Flash Plus:

1. Берем любую подручную USB-флешку, сохраняем с нее информацию и форматируем ее в FAT32.
2. Отключаем питание БП, отключаем от материнской платы все видеокарты и вытаскиваем оперативную память (в общем оставляем питание только самой материнки от блока питания). Включаем питание БП.
3. Скачиваем актуальную версию прошивки с официального сайта, у нас на текущий момент это F7c от 24/01/2022 — скачается архив с именем mb_bios_z590-gaming-x_f7c.zip
4. Распаковываем архив в отельную папку и ищем там файл Z590GAMINGX.F7c

1. Переименовываем наш файл в каталоге с Z590GAMINGX.F7c на GIGABYTE.bin, на уведомление с изменением расширения соглашаемся. Пример ниже:

1. Копируем все наши файлы (хотя и достаточно одного GIGABYTE.bin, но лучше на всякий случай скинуть всё) из каталога с прошивкой на ранее отформатированный в FAT32 флеш накопитель.
2. Вставляем нашу флешку в задний порт с пометкой BIOS USB 3.2

USB порт для прошивки BIOS через Q-Flash Plus

1. Зажимаем кнопку BIOS PLUS как на картинке ниже и ждем пока замигают светодиоды. Как только светодиоды заморгали, кнопку отпускаем и оставляем компьютер в покое — началась прошивка BIOS. Питание не выключать и ничего не трогать пока не пройдут все признаки прошивки BIOS описанные ниже. Время на прошивку уйдет от 6 до 10 минут, поэтому никуда не торопимся.

1. Вот описание самой прошивки BIOS — мигают желтые светодиоды и некоторое время компьютер не подает никаких признаков жизни. Через некоторое время около 3-4 минут компьютер самостоятельно запустился (желтые светодиоды в это время все еще мигают) — в таком режиме он пробыл еще около 5-6 минут и несколько раз самостоятельно перезагрузился. Ничего не трогаем и никуда не тыкаем в это время — ждем. Ждем ровно до того времени, пока после очередной перезагрузки BIOS на материнке не подаст нам сигнал миганием красных светодиодов, об ошибке запуска оборудования (оперативку то мы для этого и доставали) — мигание красных светодиодов нам говорит и о том что прошивка прошла успешно.
2. Отключаем питание на блоке питания и возвращаем подключение всех устройств на свои места, подаем питание на блоке питания и включаем компьютер. Снова терпеливо ждем, пока BIOS проверит все оборудование — также последует несколько самостоятельных перезапусков ПК (изображение на экране может отсутствовать — не ссым, кто ссыт, тот гибнет — все в порядке и так надо).
3. После очередного запуска ПК появится изображение на экране и будет предложено произвести настройку BIOS, что собственно мы и делаем.
4. После входа в BIOS видим, что текущая версия программного обеспечения F7c от 24/01/2022. Поздравляю — основная цель достигнута — BIOS прошит и мать не превратилась в кирпич.

Дополнительно в BIOS была произведена настройка оборотов кулеров по температуре, установлен XMP -1 профиль на базовую частоту ОЗУ 3200 MHz и проведено сохранение всех измененных параметров.

После всех проделанных манипуляций была проведена диагностика работы ОЗУ, процессора и видеокарты — проблем на момент тестирования, зависаний и троттлингов при просмотре 10 вкладок ютуба + стресс тесте процессора не обнаружилось, все оборудование работало стабильно. BSOD никакой нас не посетил, за что ему отельное спасибо 🙂

Fixing the Medion Erazer Engineer E10

Tip: whenever you buy a pre-built PC, run some benchmarks to see if the performance numbers are comparable to similarly specced systems.

Long story short: for my PC they weren’t. Geekbench reported a far lower score than my Intel Core i5-12400 should be capable of, and Cinebench was even worse. As is often the case, the solution was on Reddit.

Turns out that Gigabyte motherboard in my Medion MD35244 came with a very old BIOS installed. One that severly limited the CPU performance of some Alder Lake CPUs. Gigabyte acknowledged this issue and released an update over a year ago. But that’s when I ran into an issue. My motherboard had a Medion BIOS, not a Gigabyte one.

OemID Mismatch

BIOS updates are tricky. If anything goes wrong, your PC can be bricked, and you may need to replace the motherboard. To keep people from flashing the wrong file, some checks are performed. In this case, when I tried to install Gigabyte’s newer version, I’d get an “OemID Mismatch”. Basically, I could only install a BIOS that came from Medion. But their tech support made it very clear they were not going to provide one.

This Reddit post suggests booting FreeDOS and using a DOS-based tool to flash the BIOS. I spent hours trying to boot FreeDOS, but could not get it to work.

Q-Flash Plus

Luckily, this particular motherboard (B660M DS3H AX DDR4) has a little button labeled “Q-Flash Plus”. It provides a way to flash your BIOS, even without anything installed on the motherboard. This is helpful if your CPU is very new, and requires an update even before you build the system. My quess was that perhaps this would do fewer of those pesky checks, and I was right.

I’m not going to recommend that you do this, and if you do, please research the steps involved, and follow them to the letter. This is a potential footgun, so don’t blame me if it does not work.

In my case it worked flawlessly. I put the new BIOS on a USB stick (formatted FAT32), renamed it to “GIGABYTE.bin”, powered the computer down and pressed the “Q-Flash Plus” button. Ten minutes later, the PC booted into the new BIOS. No need to remove any components, as some guides suggest.

Obviously, this voids your warranty, but I don’t really mind. Doubling the performance is worth it to me. What bugs me is that Medion did not, in multiple emails I got from them, even once acknowledge the problem, or offer a solution. They must have shipped more than one of these machines, and it’s likely they all have this issue.

The very least Medion could do is provide an updated BIOS file. But even then, most owners won’t even know their system is underperforming. Time for a recall?

Возникла потребность обновить биос на гигабайтовской матери. А am4 не даёт этого сделать стандартными средствами. Никакая заводская утилита. Даже с модами. Сука. Прищепка не знает эту микросхему, да и цеплять ее — то ещё удовольствие.
Хотел было уже сдаваться сервисменам, со всеми возможными приключениями.
Но подвернулся вовремя flashrom.
Дай бог программисту здоровья и жену богатую.
А сэкономленные деньги можно и пропить. Тем более что погода способствует.
